Journal Therapy: Moving Beyond the Blank Page

Nicki Cawood: Accredited Practitioner in Therapeutic Journaling (MCMA)

Everyday journaling tracks our immediate thoughts, feelings, and daily life. Therapeutic writing uses structure, creative prompts, and reflective frameworks to deepen our self-awareness and actively guide our personal growth.

This is not a creative writing class. It is a structured, evidence-based tool to help you clear mental noise, drop heavy expectations, and reclaim your identity.

When you hear the word "journaling," you might think of blank notebooks, daily diaries, or aesthetic morning routines. But when you are carrying the weight of a demanding career, the physical exhaustion of perimenopause, or the relentless systemic battles of SEND advocacy, a blank page is not helpful. In fact, it is often overwhelming. You do not need another place to simply repeat the loop of your daily stress.

Journal therapy is different. It is structured writing with a therapeutic purpose.

Instead of staring at an empty page, you are given functional frameworks and deliberate prompts. We move the noise from your head onto paper, creating the safe, external distance you need to separate who you are from the heavy roles you carry.

How It Works

This practice has nothing to do with grammar, spelling, or perfect sentences. If you can text a friend or write a work email, you have all the skills you need.

  • 100% Private: Your writing stays in your notebook. You never have to read a single word out loud or share it with me. We focus entirely on you processing your thoughts.

  • Led by You: You provide the honesty and I provide the structure. We shape the sessions around what you are carrying right now, whether that is a changing family dynamic or a deep career pivot.

  • Actionable Clarity: We move past simple venting. We use the page to help you edit out old scripts, build your self-awareness, and actively design your next chapter.

Writing Therapy:

FAQs

Do I need to be a good writer?

Not at all. This practice has nothing to do with grammar, spelling, or perfect sentences. If you can write an email or text a friend, you have all the skills you need.

Is it online or in person?

All 1:1 sessions, group workshops, and consultations take place online via Zoom unless otherwise arranged. This means you can show up in your own comfortable space, in your own time, from anywhere in the UK.

Will anyone read what I write?

No. Your writing is 100% private and stays in your own notebook. You never have to share a single word or read anything out loud to me or anyone else. The focus is entirely on you processing your thoughts on the page.

What can it help me with?

It is highly effective for women navigating a major life transition. We use it to untangle career crossroads, process the emotional landscape of perimenopause, drop the heavy expectations of SEND advocacy, and actively map out your next chapter.

How much time does it take?

It is designed to fit into a busy life. Whether you are working with me 1:1 or using a workbook, the structured exercises and prompts are built to give you genuine mental clarity in just 10 to 15 minutes a day.
